About the Studio
Founded in fall 2011, Percussion in the Valley, owned and operated by Dr. Meggie Aube opened it's doors with one student in her awesome parents' garage. It has since grown to over 30 students and is now located in a brand new, professional studio space in Palmer at 13372 Crowther Rd. The studio is comprised of a teaching studio, practice room, and group ensemble room. All members of the studio have access to state of the art instruments, including a 5 octave marimba. Students are encouraged to use the practice room space to warm up before lessons and to come in and practice in their free time. In addition the studio also offers a limited amount of percussion items for sale, such as sticks, mallets, and method books commonly required by the instructors.
There are 2 active percussion instructors at the studio. Lene Kennison teaches the beginning level students, and Meggie teaches the intermediate, advanced, and adult students. Students may be encouraged to take a placement lesson in order to find the correct reaher for their abilitiy level. To find out more about the instructors please visit the instrcutors page.
The Percussion in the Valley studio is dedicated and passionate to its mission of training the percussionists of the Mat-Su Valley. The instructors love the variety of students found in the valley from the beginner to the experienced player; from young students to seasoned adults. They believe that playing percussion can positively shape the life of a student, no matter what age or ability level. Proper playing technique is emphasized in each lesson. During lessons students are given the opportunity to explore a wide range of musical styles and genres. Finding the appropriate level of music for students is a priority, as well as repertoire that fuels the musical passion of the student.
Private lessons, as well as group lessons can be arranged. Dr. Aube is also available for teaching residencies as an Alaska State Council on the Arts Teaching Artist. Group drumming outside of the studio for businesses, corporations, government organizations, schools, churches, and non-profits are commonly scheduled and are a great way to help an organization with tem building and relieving stress.
